Dark Age aplenty: Warwind, Lucky and a Buzzblade

I was actually able to get in a game of Dark Age recently, and as usual, playing a game gets me rip roaring to paint up the figs for it.
I had been wanting to paint up the Warwind for quite sometime. Mostly because she is a beast on the battlefield, but also because she is a cool looking sculpt as far as I'm concerned.
All the red pleather was my wife's idea. She thought a "Hooker Ninja" would be pretty sweet.

Lucky is also pretty rocking on the battlefield, unfortunately, her sculpt is not so awesome.
For the "poster girl" of Samaria, I really thought the sculpt should be a little better. I mean, if you have seen the amazing artwork for her, you'll realize that the ball was somewhat dropped as far as the fig goes.

Ah well, she was still fun to paint nonetheless.
The rip in her stocking was an unintentional but pleasant surprise.
I was applying purple glazes to her leg in layers to suggest nylons and I guess I got a little impatient and applied another wash before the last one was totally dry. Well, part of the previous glaze came off and turned itself into a perfect tear. a little outlining to accentuate the mistake an Voila! a rip.

The last fig is just another Buzzblade of many. I can bust these out fairly quick as long as I keep the details and craziness to a minimum. Only seven more to go now..........

Confrontation: Incubus of the Despot

Just finished this guy up over the last few days. Had a lot of fun painting him as I usually do with my Confrontation stuff.
I typically give my Middy's eyes without any pupils, but I couldnt help myself on this guy.
Turned out sort of creepy looking if you ask me. ;)
Only one more fig to go and I will have finished twenty of them! I'll toss up a group shot then.

Nothing much else to say about this guy. Thanks for looking, and let me know what ya think.

Extreme Close up!!Whoaaa! (gold star for movie reference)

Memory lane: Totem hunter

Some long time readers may have noticed this guy crop up in a pic here or there with other stuff on this blog. The Totem Hunter is just so awesome though, I thought he deserved his own spotlight.
This fig went through many, many layers of paint before I was happy with his scheme. I wanted him to stand out from any of the factions I would run him with, but also be somewhat dark since he is supposed to be such a stealthy, hide in the woods kind of  guy.

I dont know what the current thoughts are for the Totem hunters usefulness in games but I find myself always trying to squeeze him into my list just because he is so awesome looking.

thanks for looking!

Kiddy toy painting challenge

Well, over on the Dragon Painting forum, Angora runs a monthly painting competition for kicks and giggles as well as a way to get painters to push their realms of comfort.

This months challenge was a pretty different one, so I thought I would show ya what I come up with, and the process I take for it.

Basically, we are to find a dinky plastic toy of some sort, prime it up and paint it.
Should be pretty cool to see what everyone comes up with.
After rooting around in  my kids toy box, I was allowed to take an old Mcdonalds happy meal toy. (Think it was McD's anyway) Think it is a Ben10 toy but I honestly couldn't say with much surety.

Here is what I'm starting with.

All primed and glued to a base now. I hope to start slinging the paint tonight. All those big open surfaces may ground this project before I get too far, but I will try to persevere through to the end.

Facebook plug and giveaway

As of late, I have decided to utilize Facebook a bit more to promote the blog and use it as good resource for quick postings of hobby stuff without a big write up, picture uploads, etc.

To that end, I would like to ask my regular(or not so regular) blog readers to head on over to my Scotty's Workshop Facebook page and throw it a like.
As a thank you, once it hits 50 likes, I plan to do another random giveaway!

Thanks for following!

Dark Age: Junker, finished

Well, this one was a 50% WIP Just a day ago but I was having such a good time painting her that I pushed through to the end. Gotta give my buddies props here for the color choices. Had a lot of help with the decisions. Not much else to say about this one but she does put me at the 25 mark for completed figs this year.
At this rate I may hit 100! We will have to see what the summer time says about that though....

Also threw in a couple of the WIPS as I went along finishing her up.
Thanks for looking!

On the Bench

Wow! what a slacker I have been this month, half way through and just putting up my first post. I did actually finish a few figures very recently but forgot to snap pics before they got sent off to the new owners. Ah well, live and learn I guess.

For now, I 'll go ahead and show some of the current WIP's I am actively working on.

Have a few Dark age things in the wroks up first. Really pleased with how the Junker chick is turning out so far. Not so terribly pleased with the Buzzblade yet though.

Inexpensive and easy homemade flock!

Thought I would post up a quick tutorial about how I go about making my own homemade flock for figure basing and terrain projects.
I am by no means the first person to do this so I cant claim complete originality with it.
Hopefully you'll be able to find a good use for it.

First things first, you have to get a god source for sawdust...and quite a bit of it.  Best bet is to find a local mill/cabinet shop or the like. People that have home wood shops will not have to worry about this part. As I am without my own wood shop, I go with my wife to a craft store that does holiday wood cutouts in bulk. Seems as long as she is in line buying something when I ask for a container of sawdust, they have no problem getting me some for free.

I usually take a big cleaned out coffee can for them to fill.

Once you've got your sawdust. you'll need to decide what color flock you want. I've just gone with green here for simplicity sake but soon I plan to make a rust colored batch for a Dark Age board.

When the color you want is in mind, go buy the cheapest craft paint you can find. You'll want it a bit darker than what you want the end result to be. This is the most expensive part of the entire project. ($2.00 or so)
A good long stirring stick is also a must, I use BBQ skewers but Popsicle sticks or a plastic butter knife should do the trick as well.
More after the jump!

Death from above! Dust Tactics, Grim Reapers

Well, my initial plan with my Dust stuff was to get the entire starter of Allies finished before I got anything else for my army. As you can tell, that didnt work out so well.
I Loved the look of these guys from the get go so I knew they were a definite "must have" and had to step up in the line of priority.

I decided to take the easy way out with these guys and paint them up just like my Walkers.
Made them go pretty quick.

Let me know what ya think. Thanks for looking!

Port town slums update

Got quite a bit more work done on this seemingly never ending project.
My overall vision is really starting to take shape now.

I need to continue the boardwalk and affix some hanging supports for the suspended  part, then it will be onto the other side which will not have quite as much going on.

More pics can be seen after the jump! So make sure to click the link!

Dark Age: Skaard Buzzblade

Here is the first "test" Buzzblade I got all done. I wanted to paint one to get the feel for it before I jumped in and did the other 8 that I own.
This guy was a fairly quick job but I like how he turned out. May go with more of a deadish colored skin tone for the next one, to make him look more diseased and unhealthy.

I'll put up a Skaard family pic once I get a few more of the Buzzblades done.

Thanks for looking, let me know what ya think!

Dust Tactics update; BBQ squad and Hotdog Walker finished.

Had so much fun painting up my first Dust walker from earlier that I had to move right on into the next one.
My freehand work didnt end up identical to the first but Its close enough for the table top job these are all getting.
The unit of troops was super quick and fun to paint. Its really kind of nice to have something that I can just grind through without having to put a ton of thought into it.
Had my first game the other day which basically ended up a slaughter where I had nothing left on the table. Was still a good time though and hopefully my troopers will show up to fight next time around.
Working on a squad of "Grim Reapers" Heavy attack rangers currently, so stay tuned for those.

And here is a shot of the whole crew together, Ready to whoop some axis scum..........eventually......

Also, for those interested. I threw a post up on the Geek Garage site a few days ago with the latest addition to my Mid-Nors.

Medic!!!!!

This was a real quick paint job for me and it shows a bit, but I'm pretty pleased with the result.
Think she was about 2 hours worth of work.
Along with most of the Dark Age female figs, she is super tiny and petite. (Oh my eyes!)

After running her in a few games, I decided she would most likely be in all of my Forsaken lists. 50 points for someone that can heal in a such a brutal game, is a small price to pay!
So, I thought I had better slap some paint on her before the next game.

Thanks for lookin.

Memory lane: Cygnar Centurion

I've had this guy sitting on the shelf for a few years now but I still remember working on him. At the time, I was trying so hard to paint white well. As you can see my efforts were not the greatest but I stuck with it and finished him up. Lesson learned, Don't paint white unless you have to!

He was one of the very first figs I finished for my Cygnarans, as he is by far my favorite Jack in the entire army.(T head is dang close)

Confrontation: Dwarf Wrecker

I have been working on this little guy on and off between other figs while I was waiting for stuff to dry.
I freakin love the look of these big face confrontation Dwarves, and this guy was a blast to paint because of it.
Seems I got a bit crazy with the colors on him, especially on the back! I think he came together well in the end though.
Cant wait to start work on the other two sculpts now!

Let me know what you think.

Extreme Beast 09

Got this bad boy finished up as a last leg of one commission. Once I actually started, I had a lot of fun working on him.
I went against the standard white and red scheme just to make him seem a little different.
The battle damage on this guy was an experiment and I like how it turned out personally.
Next time I will be less reserved and really lay down some dings and dents.
Hopefully this will be my last extreme sculpt for a while, not sure how many more of those I can handle.

Dark Age: Skaard, Tribal Father and Grafter

I finished up a couple Dark Age guys for my Skaard over the last couple of weeks. I was just going to post up the Tribal father by himself since he was done first, but he is such a terrible fig, I thought I had better have another one to show as well.
So, I hurried and busted out the Grafter too.
Where as the Tribal father is a pretty awful fig, I love the look of the Grafter. Very suitably creepy.
These two give me a near fully painted demo force. Just need to find some time to get a handful of Buzzblades done.

Let me know what ya think!
